When your product needs company data

Company data with its sources

SourceKeel turns regulatory filings into structured company data. Each value links to the filing it came from.

01

Reading the filings

SEC filings are free to download. Reading them means parsing HTML and XBRL, following tags that change over time, and checking amendments for restated numbers. The coverage page links to our official sources and describes the work needed to use them.

Before you build it yourself

What would it take to do this in house?

02

Tracing a value

Each number includes the accession number of the filing that reported it. Another request retrieves the original document. Amendments appear in the same company record, with both filings identified.

When a number looks wrong

Which filing said that, and can I show it to my users?

03

Checking missing data

If a filing does not report a value, the API returns a not-found response with the reason, without estimating the missing value. Check coverage before requesting data. Coverage responses cost one credit in the dated API; legacy coverage checks are free.

Before you show a blank

Did the company leave this out, or did my data feed drop it?

04

Our own use

Helmbeam, our research product, runs on the same SourceKeel data available to your product.

Before you depend on it

Does the team behind it rely on it too?

A letter from the founder

Why I built SourceKeel

I'm Ola. I'm a software engineer, and I built SourceKeel for people who ship products on company data.

The filings that data comes from are free. Anyone can download them from the SEC. Using them shouldn't be expensive, yet it is, and after you pay you still clean the data yourself.

That data has gaps. A value goes missing, and your feed hands you a blank or a zero, and you can't tell which one you got. A company restates a number you already showed a customer, and nothing tells you what changed. When a customer asks where a number came from, you often can't point to the filing.

Nobody can promise every number is right. What I can do is make a wrong number quick to find and quick to fix.

I built SourceKeel to keep the filing behind every value. You, your users and your agents can check any number against its source with one more request. Next, every fix will say why it happened: a restatement, a tagging error in the filing, or a mistake of ours.

You can try SourceKeel with a free sandbox key, without a card.

It won't give you investment advice or tell you what to do with the numbers.

The free sandbox key needs no card and works on Amprius Technologies right away.
